Perth, start to finish

BBW Perth: Meet by Day, Then a Night in Northbridge

Kings Park or the quay by day, Northbridge after dark, and a no-strings plan for BBW, big men and the people who fancy them.

An easy Perth evening in four steps

Fat F-Buddy exists for one thing: BBW, big men and their admirers meeting one to one, with nothing to explain and no strings. What's left is Perth's part, and its trains run a long way out, close to an hour end to end on the Mandurah Line, so plan backwards from the ride home.

  1. Find your line

Transperth publishes timetables line by line: find your final departure that morning, and scan the service updates for any nightly closure.

  2. Meet while it's light

Kings Park, the Art Gallery of Western Australia or Elizabeth Quay: public, and easy to leave.

  3. Pick the evening together

Northbridge is a short walk in; Leederville, Subiaco and Fremantle are on the rail network. Pick what suits both your trains.

  4. Name your cut-off at hello

Try “I'm on the Mandurah Line, so I'll head off before the last train.” Said early, it's a plan; said at ten, it sounds like an excuse.

Fat F-Buddy pins to your home screen like an app, and your profile names your nearest town or city, never your street (see the features page).

Four districts, four kinds of evening

Pick the pace that suits you both. Destination Perth, the Perth Region Tourism Organisation's visitor site, sums each one up like this.

  • Northbridge

Five minutes' walk from the city centre: wine bars and pubs first, gelato last, and menus from Asian to South American barbecue between.

  • Leederville

Three kilometres out on the train line: small bars, beer gardens, an arthouse-leaning cinema, street art. A film first makes the talking easy.

  • Subiaco

Hidden bars, a theatre and restaurants beside Kings Park, on the rail line to the city and airport. An afternoon in the park rolls into dinner.

  • Fremantle

A port city about 30 minutes out: weekend markets, cafes, harbour seafood and live music that runs late. With the Fremantle Line running all the way in, the last train, not the band, calls the encore.

Transperth

One tap for trains, buses and the ferry

Pay with a SmartRider card, or tap a contactless card or phone.

  • Eight train lines: Airport, Armadale, Ellenbrook, Fremantle, Mandurah, Midland, Thornlie-Cockburn and Yanchep.
  • One ferry: Elizabeth Quay to Mends Street Jetty in South Perth, a ride on the water that makes a good second act.
  • The Airport Line: open since 9 October 2022, with stations at Airport Central and Redcliffe.

Three ways to get tested, one with no appointment

  • Sexual Health Quarters

Run by the Family Planning Association of Western Australia on Roe Street, Northbridge: confidential STI testing and treatment, including a same-day clinic, booked by phone or online. Weekdays 9:30am to 4pm, Thursdays to 8pm.

  • Royal Perth Hospital

A public clinic on Level 4 of Ainslie House, Murray Street, testing and treating chlamydia, gonorrhoea, HIV, syphilis and herpes, with help telling past partners.

  • WA Health online

If you're 35 or under, with no symptoms, after sex without a condom: answer WA Health's questions, print the form and give a sample at a PathWest collection centre. No appointment, no Medicare card, no charge.

The online route covers chlamydia and gonorrhoea only; a nurse rings only if a result is positive, about five to seven days on. A GP or clinic can say which tests you need; the safer casual sex guide has the basics.

Summer heat, winter rain and a clock that stays put

Wikipedia's climate table for Perth, which cites the Bureau of Meteorology's averages, gives January an average high of about 31°C and a low of 18°C, and July about 19°C and 8°C. July is the coolest and wettest month: rain falls from May to August, and summers are dry.

  • Summer: meet early or late, and use the gallery at midday.
  • Winter: lead with a roof; save Kings Park for a dry afternoon.

Perth skips daylight saving, as Brisbane does, so the two stay two hours apart all year (our Brisbane guide covers that end); the Australia guide has every city's clock.

Perth, asked and sorted

When does the last train leave Perth?

It depends on your line: Transperth publishes a timetable for each of its eight, and the last departure differs from one to the next. Find yours on the day you meet, then pick a district on that line so the evening can run right up to it.

Can I get an STI test in Perth without an appointment?

Yes, for chlamydia and gonorrhoea, if you're 35 or under with no symptoms: WA Health's online route needs no appointment or Medicare card, just a printed form and a PathWest collection centre. Sexual Health Quarters also runs a same-day STI clinic.

How do I get from Perth Airport to the city?

Take the Airport Line: Airport Central sits by terminals 1 and 2, Redcliffe by terminals 3 and 4. The Public Transport Authority's statement in the line's opening week, October 2022, timed the first weekday run from Perth Station to Airport Central at about 18 minutes.
