Plan the night
Your First Meet With a BBW
A stop-by-stop plan from the night before to the walk home, with wording to copy.
Meet somewhere public where you can both sit comfortably, and settle the seat, the plan and a short video call beforehand. Make your own way there and back, start with a full battery and give a friend the details. Talk about the person, not the body, ask out loud before anything moves on, and make either answer easy to give.
Walk in knowing what comes next
A first meet with a BBW needs no special script. Amber Sarah’s 2013 advice to admirers in Everyday Feminism, a personal view, is to date her the way you would date anyone. Everything before the meet lives on the BBW chat page and in the guide to asking a BBW to be your fuck buddy; five stops cover the rest.
- The day before
Settle the place, the seat and a video hello
Offer two places and let them pick; a choice feels like a say, a single suggestion feels like an order. Then ask about seating the way you would ask about parking. Sarah’s 2013 essay puts restaurant seating among the practical topics worth raising.
I would rather sit in a proper chair than on a stool. Is there anything you would like to avoid, like stairs or a long walk in?
Then book ten minutes on video. Ask for one small live thing a photo can’t fake, like waving with the other hand. In its August 2022 dating scam advice, the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) suggests a reverse image search on profile photos and telling a friend or relative, so do both. Text your friend:
Meeting [username] at [place], 7 pm. Profile screenshot attached. I will text by 9; no word by 9:30, call me.
- Getting there
Arrive on your own wheels with a full battery
Drive, ride or walk yourself, and settle how you are getting home before you leave, not over the second drink. Charge your phone and pack a power bank. Arrive ten minutes early, take a seat facing the door and send your friend one word: here. If asked where you live, give the town or city your profile shows and keep your street, employer and gym to yourself.
- The first half hour
Talk about the person across the table
Start from the chat: the trip they mentioned, the job they dread. Praise a choice, not a body, like the jacket, the story or the laugh. Order your own drinks, watch them arrive and set your own pace; a glass that vanishes in ten minutes is not a pace to match.
- Deciding
Ask the question out loud
About half an hour in is a natural moment to choose. Do not read the signals; ask, and make both answers welcome.
Would you like to keep going somewhere more private, or shall we call this a good first meet? Either answer is great with me.
A yes to a drink is not a yes to the rest, and a yes can turn into a no at the door. If you both say yes, talk about protection and testing before anything starts; the safer casual sex guide has the health detail. Travel separately and text your friend the change of plan.
- Leaving
End it kindly, whatever the answer
Walk out together, then head off separately. Either way, send one clear line the next day, because it beats vanishing on someone who showed up.
I enjoyed that more than I expected. Can I message you tomorrow about another evening?
Thank you for meeting me. I enjoyed talking with you, but this is not what I am after, and I would rather say so now.
Then tell your friend you are home.
Habits that keep the night easy
Do
- Let them swap one public place for another. A late message about the venue is theirs to send.
- Let your friend’s check-in be your exit line: “I have a call at nine.” It makes leaving easy for both of you.
- Ask before you touch: a hug, a hand on the arm, anything.
Skip
- A hideaway chosen only so nobody you know spots you together. Agreed privacy is fine; Sarah’s 2013 advice to admirers is not to hide the person.
- Putting other body types down to flatter the one in front of you.
- Treating a drink as a down payment on anything else.
Walk away if: the person is not the one from the video call, the plan jumps to a private address you do not know, a drink tastes or feels wrong, or the pressure rises each time you say no. Money requests end the night too. The FTC’s August 2022 advice on dating scams names a tale of living or working far away among its warning signs, along with requests for a wire transfer, gift cards, a money app or crypto investments. Tell the staff, text your friend and go, then block and report using the safety page, and report scam attempts to the FTC.
Pick a place that works for both of you
The best first-meet venue has chairs. Not stools, not a bench bolted to the table. Chairs. A daytime cafe, an early dinner or a bar with real tables passes most of the four tests below; a loud club or a car passes almost none.
A seat for each of you
Proper chairs with room to settle in. A call to the venue settles it without anyone explaining why.
Room to talk
Quiet enough to hear a joke, busy enough that you are not the only table.
Staff within a shout
A counter or host stand in view, so help is a few steps away.
A way out for each
Your own ride, nobody boxed into a booth and an exit you can reach without anyone shifting.
Compliments that land: say this, not that
Praise the person and their choices, not the weight.
| Instead of | What goes wrong | Try |
|---|---|---|
| Praise with a qualifier, like “confident for a bigger girl” | Sarah’s 2013 essay lists backhanded compliments among the things to skip, and the qualifier is where the backhand lives. | I like how you hold a room. |
| Well-meant words like curvy or flattering | Healthline’s 2018 piece on body comments argues that no single word suits every body, and even kind ones can keep the focus on appearance. | That jacket suits you. |
| A remark on how they look in front of other people | Healthline’s 2018 piece separates praise shared in private between partners from comments made in public. | Ask first, then keep it private. |
| Advice about food, exercise or health nobody asked for | Dawn Clifford of Northern Arizona University, in Psychology Today in June 2026, says unrequested advice about weight is not appropriate. | How was your week? |
First meet questions, answered
Where should I meet a BBW for a first hookup?
Somewhere public with proper chairs, enough noise for privacy and staff close by. A daytime cafe or an early dinner at a table works well. Offer two places, ask about seating and plan your own way home.
Should I do a video call before we meet?
Yes, ten minutes is enough. Ask them to repeat the plan and do one small live thing, like waving with the other hand. A person who always has a reason to skip it has answered for themselves, and the guide to spotting a fake profile covers what else to watch.
How do I ask about seating without it being awkward?
Ask about the evening, not anyone’s body: “I would rather have a proper chair than a stool. Is there anything you would like to avoid?” Sarah’s 2013 essay puts restaurant seating among the practical topics, so asking early is ordinary.
I am the one being met. What can I ask for?
Everything here runs both ways. Offer two places, ask for the seating that suits you, say when you need to leave and go on your terms. Anyone who calls that fussy has told you something early.
What if we click and want to go home together?
Treat it as a second decision, not a drift. Ask out loud, talk about protection and testing before anything starts, get there under your own steam and tell your friend where you are. Either of you can stop at any point. For health questions that are specific to you, a doctor or sexual health clinic is the right person to ask.
